Gov. Cuomo has approved a bunch of new cuts. State operations, prison beds, Medicaid and education will all be reduced dramatically in an effort to balance the rising budget deficit. Sounds good to me.

New York got another historic neighborhood, its 102nd, Addisleigh Park, the predominantly black community in Southeast Queens. Formerly the home of W.E.B DuBois and Ella Fitzgerald, the neighborhood is bounded roughly by Linden Blvd., 112th Ave. and Dunkirk St. Originally prohibited to blacks based on a covenant clause, the U.S. Supreme Court overturned the racially segregated pacts, referring to the equal-protection clause of the 14th Amendment. The neighborhood was home to a number of great black jazz players, including John Coltrane. Today it serves symbolically as the bulwark of black’s achieving equal property ownership. The neighborhood today remains upscale, with the average income around $80,000 and Colonial and Tudor revivals lining the streets.

In other ideas I wonder if there are any good Indian restaurants in Brooklyn that can compete with those on Curry Hill or the Row. Any tips?

And if you’re bored, this site has a lot of cool stuff for the creative Brooklynite stuck in his/her cubicle, wishing for another blizzard that will allow us to go home early.
